Masha Vasilkovsky’s films have been presented at Centre Pompidou, Paris; the Annecy International Animation Festival; and the Museum of Modern Art (MOMA), New York, among other venues. Masha is internationally known for award-winning animated films in the paint-on-glass technique, including Fur and Feathers (2000) and Eyes of the Azure (2016). Later works, created in collaboration with Ruah Edelstein, include Ashe ’68 (2018), a VR sand animation, and her final film Who Is the Zookeeper (2026, in post-production), developed through clay relief animation on a multiplane.
Masha’s animation is featured in works such as El Doctor (2005, dir. Suzan Pitt), Lo Azul del Cielo (2012, dir. Juan Uribe), and Tell Me Cuba (2006, dir. Megan Williams). Since 2000, Masha directed and animated over 50 films.
From 2003, Masha taught film production at the Character Animation Department at the California Institute of the Arts (CalArts) and at the Media Entertainment Arts Department at the College of the Canyons. She mentored generations of young artists, often transforming the course of a life through a single encounter — with a rare clarity of vision and an unwavering ability to recognize and ignite the light in another.
