לתמיד L'Tamid

(Hebrew: "For Always")
A series of animated films documenting Holocaust survivor testimony, developed in continuation of a model originated by The Righteous Conversations Project (RCP) bringing testimony into collaboration with artists, students, and educators.

ABOUT

This body of work brings together Holocaust survivors, students, artists, filmmakers, educators, and communities in a shared act of listening, creation, and transmission. It grows from the conviction that, in this fragile and precious period of history, remembrance must remain rooted in direct dialogue with survivors and in meaningful exchange across generations, where presence and attention become the ground for understanding. Through these collaborations, survivor testimony is preserved and rearticulated in forms that can continue to speak across time, maintaining both historical truth and human proximity. The films invite young people not only to come into contact with these stories, but to engage with them directly, forming their own understanding and connection to what is being shared.

PRODUCTION CONTEXT

The films presented here were created across two related production contexts. The conceptual foundation for this work was established by The Righteous Conversations Project (RCP), which originated the model of connecting Holocaust survivors with animation classes for direct interviews, bringing together survivors, artists, filmmakers, and students in a shared intergenerational process of remembrance. Later works were developed through the L’Tamid Project, continuing this approach through dialogue, education, and animated film.

2. storyboard
The interview is transcribed into text. We write a script. Students choose parts of the story to storyboard.
3. animation
For each film we choose a unique visual style using direct animation techniques such as paint-on-glass, sand, charcoal on mylar, clay, etc.
4. POST-PRODUCTION
Completed at Lumen Animae Studios: directing, editing, and compositing. Sound developed in collaboration with composer, sound designer, and sound engineer.

Video can’t be displayed

ABOUT DAVID WIENER

In November 1939, thirteen-year-old David Wiener stood on a street corner in Łódź, Poland, and watched the synagogue across from his home go up in flames under German attack. From that moment, the world of his childhood collapsed. Deportation, Birkenau, starvation, and the pressure to surrender life itself followed, yet something in him remained unextinguished.

PRODUCTION

Developed with students of Masha Vasilkovsky’s Advanced Animation class at College of the Canyons, Coming of Age is based on an interview with Holocaust survivor David Wiener of Łódź, Poland. Directed by Ruah Edelstein and Masha Vasilkovsky, the film is created in direct sand animation technique. Key sequences are now being completed at Lumen Animae Studios.
