CONTEXT Our school's progressive mission is to educate and support children at risk in the community in the slums of Jinja City in the Eastern region of Uganda, located on the north shores of lake Victoria. The area is notorious for its utmost poverty and low quality of life. The majority of the population in Jinja city is illiterate. In the country ravaged with war, Jinja City is considered safe. Often refugee families find their new home in this part of the country. People can only rely on each other for help. One local family of two teachers, Sylivia and Richard Seruwagi, take care of 28 severely disadvantaged children from the community, ages 4-18.
FIRST STEPS Since February 2022 we have been holding weekly online classes with the community of 28 severely disadvantaged children, ages 4-18, residing in Jinja City, cared for by their two teachers, Sylivia and Richard Seruwagi. At the onset of the program with the help of our studio's friends we were able to provide this community with two sets of laptops with software to accommodate the least minimum setting for online class necessities.
SYLIVIA & RICHARD SERUWAGI Sylivia and Richard live on a small plot of land in a one room house with their three children. Richard is a choir conductor and choreographer. He makes a living by staging music, dance and theater performances in local schools. Sylivia is an Early Education teacher. With love for their culture and firm belief in education, the couple seeks out children at risk and invites them to participate in the educational and life-skill building programs that they organize on the land they rent. For the past four years, on a daily basis these two people invest all their financial and human resources into providing for 28 disadvantaged children.

  • Оur students in Ukraine: the cost of attending Lumen Animae School of Visual Arts (LASVAU) is covered in full by Lumen Animae Scholarship awarded to you.
  • Our students in other countries: there is a fee of $15 per class meeting payable through the yellow button above. No one is turned away for the lack of funds, scholarship available. All proceeds are directed to aid Ukranian people.
